Highlights of Board of Education Regular Meeting
February 13, 2017
In recognition of School Board Appreciation Week, January 22-28, Camdenton R-III staff and students recognized Board members prior to the regular Board meeting.
CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES OF THE MONTH & STUDENT AND STAFF RECOGNITIONS
Gary Fiene was recognized as the January Classified Employee of the Month and Sandy Osborn was announced as the February Classified Employee of the Month. Gary is the Security Supervisor at the High School, Horizons and LCTC. Sandy is the secretary for the College and Career Readiness Office.
Student and staff recognitions included:
· Ashli Eaves – elected to the 2017 Gifted Association of Missouri Board of Directors.
· Christy Glodt & Deanna Martin – will be presenting at the Leader in Me Symposium.
· Smith-Cotton Math Awards – Paxton Poole, Katie Swacil, Isabelle Grave, Britt Powell and Pierce Taylor competed. Poole was the top competitor in his grade level for Division III, receiving the first place award for juniors. Among Division III freshmen, Powell earned third place and Taylor earned fourth place. The 9th grade team consisting of Grave, Powell, and Taylor won second place. The 11th grade team consisting of Poole and Swacil won fourth place.
· Father Tolton Math Contest – 9th grade Algebra, 1st place, Britt Powell. 10th grade Algebra, 1st place, Kaitlyn Medlock. 11th grade Word Problems, 1st place, Paxton Poole. Logarithms and Exponents, 3rd place, Tara Poole.
· Robotics – Met international engineering soldiers’ students and their families at Ft. Leonard Wood and shared FIRST Robotics. After dinner team members introduced ice skating and s’mores.
· Paul Baur – Received the Phi Beta Mu Charles Emmons Outstanding Band Director award at the Missouri Music Educators Association conference.

RECOGNITION OF CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION MONTH
In recognition of Career & Technical Education month the students and staff at Lake Career & Technical Center expressed their appreciation to the Board of Education for their continued support. LCTC students presented on behalf of Career & Technical Education Month.

CTA/MSTA UPDATE
David Swantner, Camdenton Teachers Association President, was in attendance to provide a brief update on CTA and MSTA (Mo. State Teachers Association) activities to the Board.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
2017-2018 CALENDAR HEARING
In accordance with State law, any School District starting school prior to ten days before the first Monday in September (Labor Day) must hold a public hearing. Publication of the hearing was printed in the local newspaper and sent to local radio stations. The Board reviewed draft 2017-2018 calendar options. The Board adopted Option 4 as presented.

D. Approve Budget Amendments
A few adjustments need to be made to line items regarding fuel, professional services, repairs, and supplies in the Maintenance Department. These adjustments are expense neutral.

E. Approve Nichols Road Easement for City of Osage Beach Sidewalk Project
The City of Osage Beach is constructing sidewalks along Nichols Road. These sidewalks would be a benefit to our students and patrons accessing Osage Beach Elementary. Information related to this easement was reviewed. It was presented for the Board’s consideration and approval to grant the easement to the City of Osage Beach.

Dr. Ryan Neal presented the 2017-2018 Personnel Needs Report. This report provided actual and projected enrollment, staff needs by building/department and average class size information.
