Building Trades

Building Trades provides students with a hands-on project that utilizes both math and technology objectives. The project teaches the required objectives, as well as exposes the students to the world of banking, budgets, real estate, and house design. This program includes a short-term classroom study and hands-on practical experience in the carpentry trade. Topics covered are tools and safety, location and layout of building, concrete work, site planning, excavation, wall framing, roofing, stairways, interior and exterior trim and finishes, electrical, and plumbing. Each student participates in the construction of a house from foundation to completion in order to provide realistic work experience. Successful completion of this course will provide a background of training to enable the student to enter the construction industry. This class also includes the opportunity to pursue embedded math credit.
