    October 2013, Vol.6#2

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students of Dogwood Elementary,

We are off to an awesome school year here at Dogwood!

Kindergarten:  They will continue developing a feeling for the steady beat by marching and using “big pats,” preparing and experiencing loud/soft, practicing fast/slow, and recognizing their class mates’ voices.  We had a lot of fun last month with fast/slow using the songs “Sarah’s Train/Paige’s Train,” and the chants “Bee Bee Bumble Bee,” and “Engine Number Nine”.  Ask your students to sing “Rock Around the Alphabet,” one of our songs for their spring musical (they can sign the alphabet at the end of this song!). Their musical will be in March, dates TBA.

1stLast month, we learned about heartbeat and stepped and tapped the heart beat using songs and chants such as “Snail Snail,” “Queen Queen Caroline, and “Lucy Locket.”  Ask your kids to sing “Cut the Cake,” “Doggie Doggie,” “All Around the Buttercup,” and “Bow Wow Wow.”  We’ll begin preparing and presenting rhythm this month while practicing heartbeat.

2nd:  Our children will be reading music with many rhythms including the half note and pitches on the staff.

Our musical “Snowday” will be performed November 18th and 19th:

Ruby Lake 2nd grades (Mrs. Hastings, Mrs. Leighty, Mrs. Stolte, and Mrs. Wirths’ classes):  Monday night at 5:30 pm and during the day for their communities.

Sapphire River 2nd grades:  (Mrs. Cloyd, Mrs. Eshenroder, Mrs. Mooney, and Mrs. Schmidt’s classes):  Tuesday night at 5:30 pm and during the day for their communities.
